Each band member was asked to answer the same following questions. Here’s Allison’s answers.
What do you see as your main role in the band?
I am just the singer.
List other roles you believe you fill in the band.
Hmmmm, do I have any other roles? Don’t bother me….I’m thinking.
List your musical influences (in no particular order).
John Cowan, Ann Wilson, Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Steve Walsh, Mark Teeters
What musical instruments do you play?
Did you have to ask that question? I played the coronet in grade school through high school. (so NOT cool) I can read music, though! Does that count? Oh, I do a fierce rendition of “Ducks on the Pond” on the piano. (refer to beginner’s book 1)
What kind of equipment do you use?
I use a SHURE wireless microphone. Don’t know the technical details about it but it works when I flip the switch.
Why did you get into the music business?
Actually, the music business got into me. Music has always been the number one thing in my life. I can’t remember ever wanting to do anything else. My mother exposed me to all types of music throughout my childhood and into my teens. She took me to concerts and musical gatherings and I would put on shows in my yard using jump ropes as microphones. I always had tape recorders and loved recording myself. I sang in front of my entire school when I was 8 years old, talent shows in junior high and I sang at my high school graduation. Basically, I would sing for anyone who would listen. Finally, I started singing in bands. It just seemed natural and my mom always encouraged me, even when I was still living at home at 26! I never envisioned being rich and/or famous, I just wanted to sing. So, I am.
If you were banished to an island for the rest of your life and you could only take 5 CDs with you, what would they be?
John Cowan - The John Cowan Band
New Grass Revival - Grass Roots–The Best of NGR
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
The Gaithers - Homecoming
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
Hell Since I was a good girl and chose some gospel music, I think I should get an extra CD. How about
Mindchaser - Mental Stillness (shameless plug, huh?)
100 years from now, if this band is remembered, what would you like people to remember about it?
The music.
100 years from now, what would you like people to remember about you?
My mind. My voice.
List anything else about yourself and/or the band that you would like included in your bio:
This band is the greatest!!!! We are friends, as well as musicians, and we have fun together. I consider myself extremely lucky and richly blessed, to be in this band. I have evolved, as an artist, in ways I never imagined. I think I have become somewhat of a lyricist for our original material, fearless in what I will attempt vocally (notice I said ‘attempt’, it doesn’t always work!) and I have the supreme distinction of being Marky’s muse and “The Goddess Mamahead”, though I am not sure exactly what that last title entails and I probably don’t want to know. It sounds good! I was the lead vocalist for a band called Rose Alley a number of years ago. It was a good basis for what I am doing now, though the creative end of the business was not something I got to experience, while a member of that group. I have learned a lot since then, especially about myself. In my other life, I was a trained nursing assistant (I did have a REAL job!) . It was extremely rewarding work, but no one wanted to hear me sing. I live in Ohio with my husband, my cat and my Baby Cow. I have lots of family and loved ones around me and all in all I have a great life!
